Whitening
Over time, teeth gradually yellow in colour. If you drink coffee,
tea or red wine, or if you smoke, your teeth will become even
more stained and discoloured. With today's variety of smile whitening
methods and technologies, your smile can easily be whitened in
a number of ways. At this time there are two options for smile
whitening:
home tooth whitening systems that use trays and prescription whitening
gel or laser whitening that uses light-activated gel to brighten
teeth.
How is it done?
Home Tooth Whitening
At-home or take-home whitening is accomplished by wearing custom-made
trays filled with prescription whitening gel for several hours
at a time for at least three days.
Patients are scheduled for a tray fitting where impressions of
the upper and lower teeth are taken. From these impressions, custom
trays for the teeth are formed.
At the next appointment, the trays are delivered, and tested for
proper fit. The dentist then shows the patient how to apply the
prescription-quality whitening gel into the trays. The trays are
extremely thin, virtually invisible and can be worn during the
day or night. The results are long lasting, and the smiles are
quickly brightened in a three to five days.
Laser Whitening
At Enhance UK we use Zoom! Whitening Technology. This technology
bleaches your enamel and dentine. Most common causes of discoloration
are aging and consumption of red wine, coffee, tea or tobacco.
During your visit to the practice your teeth will be exposed to
Zoom! gel as well as the Zoom! Light, this light helps the gel
penetrate into your tooth and as such improve your results by
as much as eight shades! The gel is light activated and consists
of hydrogen peroxide. This compound is broken down and active
oxygen is released into the enamel and dentine, which in turn
bleaches the coloured substances present in your teeth. While
over the counter toothpastes can take months to lighten your teeth
by a few shades, Zoom! Technology will give you a difference of
about eight shades in one hour!
Does the treatment hurt?
Tooth whitening is a painless procedure; however some patients
experience increased tooth sensitivity to cold substances after
the treatment. This is only temporary and will disappear within
between one and three days after treatment.
How much does it cost?
Home whitening includes trays custom made to fit your mouth and
4 syringes of carbamide peroxide as well as instructions from
the dentist on how to use it. Cost is £300.
Laser whitening is a procedure completed during your visit to
the practice. Cost is £350.
A combination of laser whitening and home whitening is £550
and can deliver dramatic results.
